It is a great pleasure for us to announce that our website model for the Local Health Authority (ASL), developed in collaboration with Designers Italia, was selected for the ADI Design Index 2024. This recognition highlights the importance of design as a tool for public service transformation.
The selection was presented on 30 October 2024 at the ADI Design Museum in Milan, an event attended by prominent design figures and institutions such as Luciano Galimberti, ADI President, and Barbara Mazzali, Lombardy Regional Councillor for Tourism, Territorial Marketing and Fashion.

Our work is part of the ambitious project to digitalize the Italian public administration, led by Designers Italia. Our goal was clear: to design a website model for Local Health Authority that is accessible, easy to use and modular, capable of responding to the needs of both citizens and healthcare providers, offering an intuitive and effective digital experience.

We made the resources available in an open-source format to ensure maximum scalability and ease of adoption. This way, all ASLs and their suppliers can implement the model and adapt it to their specific needs.

Collaboration and user-centred approach

A key project element was the close collaboration with the Designers Italia team. By working in synergy, we ensured consistency between design and implementation, focusing on the needs of the end-users: citizens and ASL operators.

We were able to fully understand user needs through interviews, workshops and benchmarking sessions. This approach allowed us to design a model that meets the functional requirements and feels intuitive and familiar. This has significantly improved access to health information and the usability of the service for millions of people.

Using the Designers Italia Design System, we created simple and modular interfaces supported by a customisable visual identity. We also developed brand and accessibility guidelines to ensure that ASLs could implement the model independently while maintaining a high-quality standard.

The inclusion in the ADI Design Index 2024 is an important recognition of the value and impact of our project. This achievement is a testament to our commitment to ethical and responsible design that places the needs of citizens at the forefront.

The ADI Board highlighted how our project is a virtuous example of design's contribution to the digitalisation of public services. We are proud to contribute to this transformation and to show that a user-centred approach can make a difference.

"This project is part of a wider context of digitisation of public administration, a line of work that Designers Italia has been pursuing for years, first with the model dedicated to municipalities, then to schools and, thanks to this project, also to local health authorities. The close collaboration between Tangible and Designers Italia has been crucial to the success of the project, ensuring maximum efficiency and effectiveness".

Towards the Compasso d'Oro

The ADI Design Index is a prestigious publication that selects the best Italian design projects to be nominated for the ADI Compasso d'Oro Award 2026, the highest recognition in the field of design. The selection of this project is an encouragement for us to continue along this path, promoting innovative solutions that have a positive impact on society.

The selected projects will be presented at two major exhibitions:

  • Milan: ADI Design Museum, from 31 October to 17 November 2024.
  • Rome: Spazio WeGil, from 26 to 30 November 2024.

We invite everyone to visit the exhibition to discover our work and that of the other selected designers.

This achievement would not have been possible without the valuable contribution of the entire team. A heartfelt thank you to:

and the Designers Italia team:
